Mount Everest

A young man told me a story today. He confided in me about how he had seen his life like he was climbing Mount Everest but then realized at the top -

“This is it? There is nowhere else to go!” (paraphrased) so he ‘jumped off’ into the bottle! A very lost and lonely place to be!!

He was still young, but he had focused so much time and energy on the ultimate mountain he had “nowhere else to go,” and no other plans. Being on top had not been as satisfactory and fulfilling as he had envisioned. Thus, the victory of getting to the top was short lived as he figured out the only way from there was down!

As we talked, I remembered hearing people say, “life is a journey with many mountains and valleys,” or “it isn’t about getting to the ‘the top’ it’s about the climb.” (Someone wrote a song with those lyrics). I have a different way of looking at it.

What came to my heart - the most satisfying way to live life is seeing it as an adventure. An amazing opportunity to make a difference or perhaps a chance to receive a blessing from others!

It is our time to leave a legacy, leave our stamp on this earth, forever!

It is not about where we are going but what we do on our way there – who we bring with us or help along the way!

It us about how our lives affect others – does our life inspire them? – does it leave a bitter taste?

When we have the chance to make good choices do we chose the road less travelled – maybe the hard road – or do we follow the paths of least resistance – the safe (?) easy way?

Challenges will come, life can be hard or full of joy and satisfying, sometimes all at once! If we look at it like an exciting adventure the ever changing ebb and flow of life, along with an undercurrent of everyday stuff, will give us more occasions to grow and overcome while building our faith, rather than overwhelming us!

As I face challenges be with me Jesus! Help me to continue to walk in Your truth. Give me rest when I need it and peace – always – Please give me the opportunity to bless others with all You have inspired me to write. May I have opportunity to teach others Your word – to love and cherish it and learn of Your great love for them – May they be filled with praise for You!

Praise You, thank you for Your great love,  Jeanne           1/21/21

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16
