Prisms of Glory
As I was getting ready one morning sunbeams from the window cast a prism affect on the wall.
I love the shimmer and reflections of prisms! Every angle displays a new aspect as the source of light piercing the prism glints and gleams in an endless kaleidoscope of colors.
So I just sat there watching…delighting in the unexpected beauty dancing across my dreadfully blank beige wall.
It was there God showed me yet another nugget of truth that I am about to pass on to you.
All humans are designed in the image of God*
Prisms as I am sure you have figured out by now are expert reflectors of light, but did you know every human shares that same expertise? Science has confirmed the Biblical concept that each one of us are unique; fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and therefore it must be concluded that our reflection of God (and the Trinity) is too. The way His character mirrors out of my life will differ from yours but each testifies to a part of His glory.
I knew that as a believer I am now light in the Lord (Ephesians 5:8) but it took that verse to a whole new level when I realized I am designed with the amazing capability to refract not one but myriads of aspects of God’s glory and character! In short, I now know humans are the one stop cool shop of reflections. (Sorry Hummingbirds. Your feathers reflect phenomenal beauty but we humans got ya beat ;) ).
So if this is true, why do some people not reflect God at all?
The dark is no friend of a prism and people who love darkness rather than light can’t reflect anything but darkness. Without a light source the potential for God’s glory is not revealed. Little do they realize that doesn’t change the original intent of the design much like using a chair for a ladder doesn’t change the predetermined use of the chair.
The beauty in that verse above is that God, who commanded the light to shine out the darkness, can shine the light of the glorious gospel of Christ in your heart if you let Him. So long as their is breath in your lungs you can always dedicate your life to reflecting the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
As for me and my life? Well that day as I meditated on the prisms I decided I wanted to continue living my life in the light of God’s countenance (Psalm 89:15) so that as His face rests upon me His light catches on the angles of the prisms of my life and it casts forth His glory into the earth. I decided I wanted to be a Prism of Glory wherever God leads me.
What will you choose?
*NOTE - The plurality used in this verse is referring to the Trinity which is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
