A Sheep’s Prayer

This is a guest post/prayer by my mom, Jeanne. She is a great woman of faith and I am so happy to be able to share this uplifting prayer she wrote using the 23rd Psalm. Both of us hope all who read it are blessed!

The LORD is my shepherd;

Lord, You are my Shepherd! You are the good Shepherd and you gave your life for the sheep. (John 10:11). You are my Shepherd, I am your sheep. You know me and I know you (John 10:14). Praise your holy name!

I shall not want.

I will not lack any good thing because You are my Shepherd (Psalm 34:10). You will watch out for me and take care of me. May your name be glorified!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

Lord, You give me rest, You watch over me as I sleep. In Your green pastures are peace and safety where there is no fear! Peace and life are in Your presence forever more!

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

You lead me in quiet restful places where I feel safe because You are there. You give me living water, I shall never thirst and out of me shall flow rivers of living water to give to others, in Your name (John 7:38). You alone are Holy!

He restoreth my soul:

You have brought me from death to life by your blood. You have redeemed me from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). I am a new creature and old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17). My God my Savior!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

You lead me in paths of righteousness. You lead me! It is not a path I have to find because you know it. You are the leader, my Shepherd, the one who keeps me on it, and if I stray you will find me and bring me back! It is for Your name’s sake, Your name be praised!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, or when fear reaches out to grasp me, or troubles or challenging times threaten to overwhelm me, Lord...

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

you are with me, watching and protecting me! Your Holy Spirit resides in me so no matter where I am you are there with me as a good Shepherd.

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Your rod staff protect me from evil, and draw me back to You if I stray! Such comfort cannot be found anywhere else! Praise to You my Comforter!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

I rejoice and feast at the table You have put before me. I eat the bread of life that gives life to the world (John 6:33). You are the Living Bread and I will never hunger. I shall live for ever with You (John 6:51)! As my enemies watch You continue to bless me and show them how much You love me and care for me!

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

You have anointed me with Your Holy Spirit and my cup overflows with the blessings You pour out on me, help me to be a blessing to others. My heart overflows with thankfulness to my king!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

Your goodness and mercy are always with me! There is no God like you! I call you Abba Father!

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore (Psalm 16:11). You are my God for ever more! Praise you mighty God!

Amen
