Heart of Josiah

Recently I re-read about Josiah who was an amazing king in the Bible! Look at these two excerpts about this extraordinary young man who used his kingship to do good and not evil.

Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.  Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
— 2 Kings 22:19-20
And like unto him (Josiah) was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
— 2 Kings 23-25

When Josiah heard the truth he turned to the Lord with all his heart, soul and might. His devotion wasn’t a moment of passion that fizzled out in a week. It was more like a match that caught bone dry tinder on fire and swept across the land in a bold blaze of devotion. I got chills reading all he did in response to the truth. It was inspiring and humbling at the same time!

He personally saw to it that the culture be stripped of its dark and evil practices and the truth restored. His devotion was bold and unapologetic and yet his heart so tender and genuine.

Reading about Josiah made me consider some things.

Have I always responded to God with such passion and desire?

Have I been so zealous for the truth that I am willing to give up convenience and security and do the radical to pursue and establish it?

Hmm, food for thought is it not?

I am praying the Lord gives me the heart of Josiah so that when I hear the words the Lord speaks, I respond with all my heart, all my soul, and with all my might and I see it through to the end.

Will you join me in praying that over yourself, the body of Christ and our land?

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand...
— Psalms 95:6
