Fret Not

Fret not…God has sent several people to remind me of those two little words. I know God isn’t trying to slap a Band-Aid on real fears and real pain but sometimes it feels that way. It’s like He is telling me to do the impossible because when I look at America, and the world and the families everywhere just struggling and hurting fretting it about the only thing that comes to mind.

Have you felt the same?

Like everything is so out of control that the only thing you can control is fretting.

It has taken me awhile to realize that God telling me to fret not is because He knows fretting only steals away joy and my eyes off His goodness. It consumes my spirit in despair. In fact, He is so against fretting that He makes it a command.

There is no suggestion to fret sometimes or even for a minute and for good reason. When I fret, I am giving legitimacy to Satan’s already defeated plans. It warps reality and truth and makes my heart perceive God as struggling and unable to make His plans come to pass in the world and in my life. It causes my heart to dwell on a lie instead of the truth.

Right now, I have a situation close to my heart that I could choose to fret over. But I am going to choose to have faith and rest in the Lord and take every hard thing I deal with and see to Him as a principality already spoiled and a prayer already answered because here’s the thing, God never gives commands He doesn’t back up. Fret nots are followed by promises that declare the evil and evildoers at hand as defeated and finished all in the perfect timing and power of God. Here are several verses that address fretting not. I hope you find them as comforting as I do. Soak in every word and hold onto them for these words are faithful and true.

Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
— Proverbs 24:19-20
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
— Psalm 37:7-9
