Who Am I Becoming?

I am realizing more and more the truth behind the philosophy that I become who and what I dwell on and consistently place before my eyes.

It made me wonder, “If I were to step outside of myself for a moment (theoretically speaking) what would I see when I look at my life?”

Better yet, WHO would I see? If someone could pick the closest person they think I am like, who would that be?

The Bible says time and again to look to God and meditate on Him and His works and although I knew that is good to do, I wanted to understand even more why God is so adamant about that in particular.

As I searched the scriptures I began to see the heart of God in a deeper way and it left me feeling even more loved by Him then ever before.

God wants me to meditate on Him and His works because He wants to fill my soul with the things that are good! The things that store my treasures in heaven. The things that bring lasting growth. The things that speak truth. The things that promote hope. The things that cultivate comfort and consolation. The things that glorify Him and bless me.

Who better to emulate all of that then God himself!? He is the pure essence of holiness, goodness, rightness, justice, grace, joy, hope, patience, peace, comfort, and love (to name a few!) The verses below say some of the blessings and promises that come when a child of God meditates on Him and His works.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsover he doeth shall prosper.
— Psalm 1:1-3
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
— Psalm 63:5-6
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
— Joshua 1:8
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
— Psalms 143:5
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
— Psalm 77:12
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
— Psalms 119:15

So, if I become who or what I think one then I want to be someone who meditates on God and His works. I want the blessing and promises that come with that meditation. But most of all, I want to reflect Him so when others see me, they first see Him.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
— Philippians 4:8
