Thursday Tippity Tip - 5 Ways to Spread Kindness

Kindness is one of the best ways to combat the hurt that so often gets passed around. I hope this short post refreshes and reminds you that spreading kindness is a lot easier (and WAY more rewarding to everyone) than spreading negative yuck. :)

  1. Do a random act of kindness. I know I know, sounds so cliche but whenever the opportunity arises to do an unexpected kindness for someone else, DO IT! When people have done this to me, it always feels like an amazon box bursting with joy just got delivered.
  2. Do an intentional act of kindness. This one takes more thought but I can guarantee you will never run out of ideas or candidates. The more people you intentionally look to do a small or big act of kindness to the more joy it brings to you and the more joy is spread around.
  3. Send an uplifting quote, bible verse, or funny meme to people in your contact list whenever they come across your mind. So many times those little acts of kindness are just the words of comfort or comedy that person needed to re-boot their mind, body, and soul. There have been quite a few moments where I really needed a boost and the encouragement I needed "bings" on my phone as if right on cue.
  4. Make up a basket or fill a coffee cup with little goodies ( i.e. tea, coffee, quotes, jewelry, bookmarks etc) and then anonymously leave the gifts on someone's desk in the office you work at or the doorstep of a neighbor. It makes it so much more fun and fulfilling when they don't know "who done it". You may never see their reaction but I know they will be touched and that small act of kindness will stick with them for a long time. From personal experience, whenever I have been the recipient of those kinds of gifts, they always feel like a hug from God and I feel seen by him.
  5. Listen & show up for others. Sometimes the best act of kindness you can give is yourself. Just being there for someone, listening to their grief with compassion, laughing with them over their joys, or just reminiscing with them about life is an act of kindness that lets them know they matter more than the business of life or idle thumb scrolling of social media. It is an act of kindness that touches your heart and theirs in a deep way whether it is a passing person you met at a fund raiser table or an old friend. It is also an act of kindness that often changes the world one heard heart at a time.
