Thursday Tippity Tip: Kids & Layovers
Flying with kids is a challenge. There are many inconveniences that come with flying with kids but one inconvenience I never thought would turn into being my best friend are lay overs. Yes, you read that right. LAYOVERS! I found straight through flights are great until they are 4hrs or longer. That is when layovers are a God send. A layover gives the kids a chance to expend their pent up energy and allows me to stretch out from sitting in a cramped space while trying to corral kids in a 2' square area for hours on end. It also gives a chance for everyone to get refreshed before heading out for round two.
Next time you are booking a long flight consider one with a layover. If the flight you would be taking is 4 hours straight through for example, look for flights that are a few hours each with a layover in the middle. You may arrive later and have to board and deplane one more time than you would without a layover but the benefits far out way the tiny inconvenience. Unless you are travelling out of state or from California to Maine or something, I would limit the flight to one layover. One layover gives everyone a break while multiple layovers can cause the kids to get more antsy because they get frustrated at not knowing when the final destination will be. I discovered they seem to be okay with one layover because it is a change of scenery so just be wise on your layover choice. :)
