The Comforter

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.The Holy Ghost is described as “the Comforter”. There are so many descriptive words that could have been used but God chose, “the Comforter”. I know God always does things with a purpose and after many years of contemplating the “why” behind the name it finally occurred to me why he chose that one description. Read through the above verses carefully. It says the Comforter will teach you all things, bring all things to your remembrance, will abide with you forever, will shew you things to come, and will testify of the credibility of Jesus. Those things are so comforting; just think about the great things you receive! Fear of the unknown can cause stress and fear but you have been promised the Comforter who will show you things to come. Fear of being alone causes depression and sadness but you have been given the Comforter who will abide with you forever. Fear of not knowing what is truth or a lie can cause doubt and confusion but you have been bestowed with the Comforter who will bring all doubts and confusion into captivity, teach you all things and remind you of the trustworthiness of your faith in Jesus. It made me in awe when I realized how special and amazing it is that I literally have the Comforter; a heavenly counselor, THE Holy Ghost indwelling me! The Comforter, who holds ALL truth in his hands and speaks ONLY what God tells him to. Now THAT is comfort!! The Comforter, MY comforter, is Spirit of truth which will lead me in all truth if I listen to him. In a world full of confusion, the questioning of God, competing opinions and endless eroding of my sanity, having the Comforter dwelling within me brings peace that passes understanding. If you know Jesus as your personal Saviour then you too can and probably have experienced, the comfort of the Comforter and I hope as you reflect on the comfort of truth in your life that you are left in awe, peace, and comfort like no other.
