Go be SON-shine!

Nearly every day I am greeted by two cheerful daughters who permeate the air around them

with whimsical joy and delightfully tangible sunshine!

One day while they were visiting some people I video called them. Their radiance was so bright

that I looked at them and with a laugh and nudge of encouragement said, “You girls are like

sunbeams! Go be sunshine whatever you do today.”

That three-word phrase, “Go be sunshine,” got me to thinking. True sunshine has a daily course that at some point is replaced by darkness. The only way we can truly spread lasting sunshine is to be ‘SON-shine’ wherever we go by shining the wonderful love and joy of the Son of God, Jesus himself, in all we say and do.

  • A simple smile can change someone’s whole day.

  • One silly joke can bring about the best kind of medicine.

  • A kind word can wrap someone up in a hug.

  • A gentle touch can be just what a person needed to feel seen.

  • An act of kindness could be the thing that starts a trend of selfless acts by others.

The Bible is full of examples of light and how we are to bring light to the darkness. Here are just

four such examples.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
— Matthew 5:14
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
— Ephesians 5:8-9
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
— Matthew 5:15
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
— 1 John 1:7

So today and this year, I encourage myself and you that all believers are the light of the world;

called to walk in the light as children of light.

Let’s not just be sunshine, let’s go be ‘SON-shine’ and light our world!!
